Marquez Bakery, a family business in Arlington, Texas, has grown from a small storefront that Jose Marquez opened in 1990 into a panadería, a flour tortilla factory and a restaurant, all in the city's Entertainment District, the City of Arlington said (opens in new tab) in an Oct. 14 profile of co-owner Norma Marquez Nuñez.
Marquez, a baker by trade, saw an opportunity in Arlington's growing Hispanic community, the city said. His daughter recalled him deciding that "Arlington needs a bakery." After his death, she and her sister carried on the business, which she told the city they have now run for more than 25 years.
The bakery's website (opens in new tab) lists it at 1730 E. Division St. and says Jose's daughters and grandchildren carry on the family business, with more than 50 kinds of pan dulce in its cases. The restaurant's menu (opens in new tab) leans on flour tortillas, from breakfast burritos to XL burritos, with corn tortillas on request.
